Ask Us Anything
Our goal is to include everyone in the process that we use to enhance learning and skills. We understand there will be a lot of questions on what we do, so here are the answers.
Why should we test if there's nothing wrong with my child?
Hidden visual problems are just that - hidden. Eye doctors traditionally only test acuity, or how sharp or clear vision is. That is only one dimension of vision! Plus this ignores even the simplest movements, let alone how the eyes work together. Even if all of that is okay and grades are fine, everyone has the potential to be their absolute best and we offer avenues to get their via the eyes and brain. My best analogy is most NFL players are way stronger than I'll ever hope to be, yet they still go to the gym in addition to going to football practice!
What is the screening like?
Our screening program has been optimized for the school environment. Our tests give the most comprehensive data in the least amount of time possible. This means we can screen an entire school, provide actionable information, provide effective remedies to support every student's needs, and be affordable enough to ensure EVERY student has the chance to be their best.
Our screenings start with a basic vision test. If problems can be solved simply by adding glasses, this is the fastest and easiest approach. Plus, if the eyes can't see, it is mighty difficult to train them to track.
After this, we test the "functional" abilities of the eyes - how well can each eye point, track, and fixate on targets? Can each eye perceive colors correctly? How well do the two eyes work together? Can they perceive depth? Is the brain able to make sense of this information and use it to make decisions efficiently and accurately?
Through years of research and testing, we have found the best equipment and techniques to bring all of this affordably to your school. And the full test is less than 10 minutes per child!
How do I make testing available in my school district?
We are excited that you would like to partner with us to bring our programming to your school. To express your interest we ask that you fill out the form here.
How will this help with athletics? Academics? Art?
Everyone needs their eyes to see. Whether it's catching a ball hurdling at your child at 50 mph or they're in art class trying to stay within the lines or create their own, vision guides our bodies. Visual motor integrations allows us to use this information to accurately, efficiently, and quickly interact with the world around us. No matter what you like to do, we can help you do you better!
I understand the process but I want to opt my child out of testing at school. How do I do that?
Our exams are essential for identifying potentially hidden vision deficits that can often masquerade as other learning disabilities. Our screenings are conducted by trained professionals and are safe, non-invasive, quick, and designed to ensure comfort and accuracy.
Early detection of vision issues through these screenings can lead to timely interventions, helping children perform better academically and socially. By participating in NVT screenings, parents can ensure their child receives the necessary support to thrive in their educational journey.
If you still wish to opt your child out of the in-school vision screenings, please follow these steps:
1. Contact the School Administration: Reach out to your child's school administration office to inform them of your decision to opt out. You can do this via phone, email, or in person.
2. Submit a Written Request: Provide a written request stating that you do not want your child to participate in the vision screenings. Make sure to include your child's name, grade, and your contact information.
3. Acknowledge Receipt:Ask for a confirmation that your request has been received and processed. This can help ensure that your child is not included in the screenings.
If you have any further questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact your school administration.
